Welcome to the Charlie Company (1966-68) 4th Battalion (Mechanized), 23rd Infantry Regiment blog. Please feel free to look for old friends, share memories, and find information about our annual reunion. (Our next reunion is planned for September 2017, in Columbia, South Carolina. Please click on the Upcoming Events tab above for more details.) The photo at the top of this page was taken in September 2016, at our ninth annual reunion, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. All of the 31 men who attended are pictured.
This year’s reunion headquarters was the Drury Inn and Suites, just seven miles from the U.S. Air Force Academy, which is both a military organization and a university, currently educating over 4,000 cadets. It is also a national historic landmark. As a group, we carpooled to the Academy, where we toured the Visitor Center, showcasing Academy history and cadet life, and the Academy Chapel. In this 110-foot tall building, we saw the stunning Protestant, Catholic, Buddhist, and Jewish worship centers. Afterwards, we caught part of the noon meal formation of cadets in the plaza, marching to the beat of the Air Force band.
During our time together, we enjoyed welcoming new members, chatting, sharing meals together, and sightseeing in the Colorado Springs area. Some took the cog railway to the top of Pike’s Peak, many hiked around the Garden of the Gods’ red rock formations or the Seven Falls area, and others enjoyed various additional points of interest. A women's discussion group, led by Suzanne Cagle, met one morning during the reunion and was helpful and encouraging.
Our reunions are mostly “free-form” and casual. Jeans, shorts, and T-shirts are welcome. Some wear shirts and hats commemorating their service in Vietnam. Men meet, often for the first time in recent history, and are refreshed and energized by the bond that connects them to their combat brothers.
If you have never attended before, you are most welcome to join us in September 2017!
